Alright I just came into owership of a 1992 Laser AWD Turbo 5-speed. The local used car dealer took it on trade then after a couple weeks and a lot of messing around i bought the car for 200 bucks. Ok here comes the bad news the tranny slips out of 1st gear if your just idleing around but if ur accelerating or decellerating is usually stays in gear. The clutch is completely gone but before the previous owner traded it in he went on ebay and bought a XTD Stage 3 clutch kit
. While I was dealing with the dealer the ignition key was locked up the key wouldn't turn to at all (the main reason i got the car so cheap) i contacted the local dodge dealer and was told that a new lock complete lock assembly would run about 300 cuz the previous owner must have taken it apart and it is all smashed up he had to have taken the actual switch out of the back of it and been starting it with a screwdriver .I have never heard of XTD clutchs before it seems to be ok, i suppose. It's a 6 puck copper/ceramic friction material and it comes with the throught bearing alinment tool and pressure plate. Anyone have any experiance with this company cuz I don't know if i should use it or buy and oem clutch kit. i Have searched over the net and couldn't really come up with and info for this clutch company. I also don't know if i should buy a new flywheel or if i should have some one turn it down when we put a new clutch in my dad's pichup we were told if we turned the flywheel that we had to shim it back out or the clutch wouldn't last. The chiltons manual i have for the car say it can be turned but doesn't saw anything about shimming it back out. I just finished building a non turbo front wheel drive eclipse so i do know my way around these cars but on the turbo front i am kinda new. I want to give the car a little bit more power but i'm on a very tight budget since winter is coming and i got my hours at work cut.

Re: New Car mods
I don't see a manual boost controller and boost gauge on your list. None of that stuff in your poll will give you more power, and the 1g BOV is good enough anyway so I wouldn't get an aftermarket.

True a 1g bov may be fine but an aftermaket one sounds soo much better and what is the point of a boost gauge when there is one right in the gauge cluster but a boost controller i never really thought about.
Yes i know none of the mods in my poll would give it more power but in order to make more power i would prolly start with a wideband 02 sensor and gauge then a fuel rail with pressure regulator bigger injectors and maybe a fuel pump for the fuel side. As for the air side the boost controller like was stated before would be a good start then an aftermaket wastegate and a frount mount intercooler wich would give me alot more power but the name of the poll is cheap mods if money was no object yea i've already stated the way i would go.

The stock boost guage is a POS. Aftermarket boost gauge is gonna be a necessity if you plan on modding for performance.

Re: New Car mods
Well the most "bang for the buck" is the boost controller then. You will get more power and it will not cost more than the other things on your poll. You could even make your own if you wanted ; )

There is the info, but there are some really cheap ones you can just buy and I don't know if I would go to the trouble of building one. Unless you just wanted to say you did it. Pay attention to the part where it says, "This is the sort of mod that can destroy a turbocharged engine in less than a heartbeat. If you do not fully understand any aspect of this system, DO NOT install it on your vehicle or anyone else's vehicle." I started with a cheap ass e-bay type MBC, and it worked just fine. Get a boost gauge first, they are not that expensive either.

Re: New Car mods
Boost gauge + Boost controller = around 70-100 bucks total... for around 10-20 hp (t25) and depending on what turbo you use and how many psi you are running.

that mod list isn't the greatest list i've seen, actually it's pretty poor. you wouldn't need a new fuel rail on the t25, nor would you need a different intercooler or an aftermarket wastegate. there are a ton of things in between that you'll need. for a good upgrading list, see: http://dsmtuners.com/tech.php |

Re: New Car mods
Your list should be
1) Boost controller + boost gauge 2) 16g turbo (bolt on for 1gens) 3) hacked 2nd gen intake 4) or aftermarket intake

. And also a front mount will make it slower until you put in a larger turbo

Re: New Car mods
Gosh calm down... just trying to help someone. So a white face gauge is a better upgrade than a 16g turbo.. ok.
