loud noisy brakes

I have a 2002 Cougar which I bought new. About 8 months ago I discovered when I backed up and put on the brakes, they made a loud grating noise. Have had it to a mercury dealership for the second time. They say it is caused by rust and cougars are known for this. Anyone out there having or have had the same problem

Get new pads. try TireRack.com they have quality pads. dealers will not put good parts on your car because they want you coming back. I have AKEbono ceramic pads and Brembo slotted rotors and my brakes are totally silent and very powerful.
