1995 BMW 318i 1.8 auto

Last month I sold my 1992 Honda Civic DX after being the original owner for 13 years. My honda had been coast to coast Redwoods to the Gulf! It was sad to see it go, but I had the oppurtunity to buy a 1995 318i automatic 1.8l, black w/ black leather interior in great condition w/ 131k for $5500. I've always driven a stick and really miss it, but the BMW is a well put together car. Even an automatic w/ 4 cylinders. Any US car with 4 cylinders will under perform this car in its class. Handling is great, comfort great, roominess great, car is slow to warm up when its real cold, stereo cd/changer can rock, comforable back seat ride, look like money in it... Even though the engine isn't that of a 6cyl or upper 3series models the 1995 318i has a great body. The newer 318i's look to much like a honda. And shzit I aint' driving a Honda anymore and never will again! I'm sold BMW and with 2 months of owning it, I've learned more about cars than at any other time in my life and I'm getting old.
I am happy with my purchase, however I long to buy an upgraded model such as a 5 series in the near future.

Interested to talk with anyone who owns a 1995 BMW 318i or has owned one. Please respond, thanks!

Re: Re: 1995 BMW 318i 1.8 auto

Just bought a '95 318i last week...only 13,000 miles on it!!! Not a typo...13,000! The previous owner just never drove it much and because of a recent illness, couldn't drive anymore. I was VERY lucky finding this...I didn't think cars this old with so little miles even existed anymore. I previously drove a '95 Saturn SL2 and I have to admit, I think the Saturn seem to have more power. But the 318i is definitely a lot more quiet, smoother and comfortable. It does take awhile to warm up but runs great when it does. It is one good looking car and I couldn't pass up a great deal. I could never afford a new BMW and was never too thrilled about buying a used one but this car changed my mind. I look forward to keeping this for years to come and excited to be a part of the BMW family. I know I'll feel proud when someone asks me what kind of car I drive and I can finally say "BMW". luxorreb, I look forward to possibly sharing some stories with you.

I have a 95 BMW 318i convertible....about 130k on miles.....love it.....only issue is that the LED display on the factory installed radio is too dim to see it....wish I knew how to get it fixed!

I have a 1995 318i convertible with a 5 speed. Love it, I get 26 to 28 mpg in town and a little better on the road. I have done all of my own work on the car to date. I bought it used in 99 and have not been unhappy. I too have a problem with the factory led's on the radio. I have been thinking of replacing it with a cd player. suggestions? I have been looking at crutchfield...
I purchased a peak research code reader and reset tool. It has been very helpful. In 6 years I have only used it twice for problems and then with each oil change.
Other notes: I purchased a hardtop on ebay and had it painted to match. It is nice in the winter and on rain days. Very quite with the top on.
I replaced the shocks with the factory shocks. I like the ride. Next time I am going to replace the rear shock mounts with HD ones from Bravarian Auto Sport.
I also joined the BMW CCA, I get a great magazine and get to go to the meetings and talk with other BMW people.
Best of Luck
