Alarm & Remote Starter - Any Issues with Jimmy Install?

I have a 96 Jimmy SLT with remote entry, but have moved to a new office and would like an alarm for the nights that I work late. I've been looking at Viper and Compustart alarms and to a lesser extent Nordic. I wanted to know if there are any Jimmy related issues or problems to be aware of for alarms/remote starters. Any specific recommendations? Would I be better to get a straight alarm rather than alarm/starter? I'd like to have a starter, but it's not a must. Does the fact that I have an aftermarket deck, 2 x amps, all aftermarket speakers and 10" sub have any impact? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading this post.

Re: Alarm & Remote Starter - Any Issues with Jimmy Install?

um, I have the ultrastart 1250 in my lumina. It starts great. Very lond distance, the manual says 1200 feet, but i swaer its gone farther. I bought it off ebay, and had it professionally installed. Let me say the thing is great. Mine does not however have an alarm. I know the ultrastart 2250 does. I think you can look them up on their website. ultrastartes.com or something. Very very good remote start unit, and mine only costed 50 bux for the unit. It has lock/unlock/start/panic/trunk all on one remote. Push and hold lock, and the horn panics. But thats not an alarm. Well, good luck.

Re: Alarm & Remote Starter - Any Issues with Jimmy Install?

my g/f just asked me to install remote start in her 1995 Jimmy SLT coincidently. She already bought the unit. Its a directed, so its good. All looks good except for the parking lights. They look like they need a relay. Pretty staright forward install. I think I'm going to attempt it. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on doing this. It says in the manual to strip insultation off of wires, solder to them and then wrap them in electrical tape. I am not a big fan of electrical tape, as you know how it dries up over time. I was wondering if it would be better to cut the actualy ignition wires, slip heat shrink tubing on them, solder them back together and then shrink the tubing. I'm thinking that would work better. Any ideas? And how did your remote start end um Camweb? hope it all worked out. Thanks for any feedback.

yes, and how do you shrink it? I tried so many times, and it just keeps growing to that size again.

I use good scotch locks for most except for the bypass. (fold overs that accept a blade, not the dual wire ones) For the bypass on the ignition I would solder and heat shrink.
