need help with my restoration

Hey guys.
i am brand new to this website. I went to my local Advance Auto Parts store today and had some questions. The clerk then reffered me to this site to have those questions answered.
I am a proud owner of a 1992 Chevy Silverado.
I am also an owner of a 1989 Chevy Celebrity.

i love my silverado, but i am also commited to restoring the celebrity.
the body work i will have taken care of no problem.
the problem i have is under the hood. this car gets me about 150 HP. I am not satified with that. Is there anything i can do to boost up my power. I DO want to keep the same motor. it has only 60k on it. I am open minded to anything, as long as it will cost me less than 1k
also, how do you guys think this car would sound straight piped?

any help will be appreciated, thanks alot.

I think you have a tech 4 under the hood correct? there are a few things you can do but it wont give you as much as your looking for and to get any significant boost you need to spend more money,,,you can always put some nitrous on her but that will shorten the piston life and a straight pipe will get you stopped and also be very hot and could cause a fire in your carpet and under your car where you park,,,go with a flowmaster or a cherry bomb type muffler.

a fire??

the celeb has the 2.8 V6 in it.
if i straighpipe it my car will be hot?

and

after some thought, i will spend up to 5 thousand on this. i dont car what i have to do. i want her to make around 190 HP. Right now i can lay rubber, but that just looks stupid. the car has a minor to moderate rust problem (which is soon to be fixed)

also, ive heard alot about those cherry bombs.

how much do they run and what are all the benefits?

ahh a v6 this is a little bit different story,,you can buy headers for it an aftermarket throttle body a chip for the computer,,different injectors ,,I would suggest doing a google search for the specific engine and see the results and what is available and yes certainly with a v6 you could start a fire ,,not from what comes out the exhaust but just from the heat on the pipe.

thanks for the help so far, but i have a few more questions.

can this fire just start at any time.
do i have to be pushing the car to make it get that hot?
what are the chances of this happening?

and, im not ruling out putting on a cherry bomb. after it was straight piped, (which is getting done on monday) it wouldnt be that hard to put on the cherry bomb.

also, i looked at those SUPERCHIPS.

they provide a 12-14 percent HP increase for my motor.

i will also look in to all the other things you mentioned. thanks.

BTW, a guy i know straight piped a ford ranger 4.0 V6 and has never mentioned any thing to do with heat... is it more associated with cars?

i apologize for my stupidity. Im just now getting into the car world and really dont know much past changing my alternator, oil, and battery.
