Window tinting films

guys, I would like to tint my rear side windows and rear window. I'm planning to do it myself, anyone know any good films I should try? I want to get charcoal color dark. something that is readily available in the US.

anyone know any good tinting places in the chicago area? I was quoted $250 today at Mid-West Window something... and kinda fell to the floor. total rip-off!!!

thanx guys.

Ken brings up a good point.

How much should tinting be? What are good places in SoCal?
I guess all over the U.S. for other people. Heck, all over the world.

I want the rear windows pretty dark, and the drivers and front passgr windows a few shades lighter than the rears.
Guesstimates?

thanks

actually, when I lived in LA for the last 4 years, it was about $70-110 depending on the curvature of the glass. this is why i feel that it is a TOTAL RIPOFF when I hear $250. rather spend a day working on tinting the glass on my own....but need help choosing the right film.

thanx.

Window tinting looks very cool but here in NZ you can only go to a 35% tint or you car will fail a warrant check.

Remember that when you use a tint it makes it easier for the low-lifes to break in as the glass sticks to the tint therefore making no noise when they break it.
