Please HELP! My 93 Lumina won't start

It ran fine last night, generally has no trouble, starts quickly, no weird noises from the engine. This morning I tried to start it, and it turned over for about a second, then shut off... Now nothing. Won't turn over, won't even click. Nothing works, no lights, radio, nothing. Could it be something as simple as a fuse? What would be the possible causes?

Thanks!

Beth

Sounds like you mighta killed your battery. You didnt leave the headlights on all night did you?
Also check the connections on the battery terminals, make sure theres no corrosion on the cable ends. And make sure the connections are good and tight.

Most likely the battery. They will simply die on you and leave you stranded sometimes, or perhaps the cable is corroded or loose. Since yo have no power anywhere else, not much else it coul be. Of course if your alternator was failing all along, you could simply have been running the car on battery and now it is dead. Look at the terminals and clean if need be. If it still does nothing have someone help you and take the battery to local Advance auto or Autozone or NAPA store. They can test to see if the battery is simply drained or bad. If it is simply drained you will need to have someone charge it back. Then, install and see what happens. If it fires up get to same place QUICK and have it tested for alternator strength. If weak you will have to replace it. Not a difficult job, but be careful anytime you are dealing with batteries.

Re: car wont start

In addition you might want to check the positive lead to your starter. they have a tendancy to melt off during hard starting. (usually cuz the connection was loose) When it is disconnected you wont get power though the entire wiring harness.

It sounds like your remote positive terminal (next to your washer tank) has wiggled loose. strange as it sounds, that will also cause the symptoms you describe. Make sure that the nut on top is tight.
