wouold doing this help me get rid of the rice sound

i replaced my exhaust manifold on my 97 dx with an after market header,dc-s. now i basically have a straight thru exhaust exept i still have a stock muffler, the idea was to get rid of the restriction that the cat has but at the same time stay quite(appear stock)it makes a ricy sound,i dont want people looking every time i apply the throttle
i have done this on an '00 lx but i used an ex header and it sounded good,no sound distortion whats so ever, could the difference in the headers be the answer?or is it my muffler?
or maybe there is someone out there who has an ex,and was thinking about an upgrade to an after market header, perhaps we can do a swap.

Re: wouold doing this help me get rid of the rice sound

i see what that does, but i do not think that that would cange anythig, because when driving in the closed position/street mode it will sound exactly like it sounds now,and that is what i am trying to eliminate.

If you have no cat or gone hi flo, you will sound louder no matter what you do. A resonator may somewhat help, but, to more drastically reduce the noise, put the cat back on.

Re: wouold doing this help me get rid of the rice sound

I've hear that the Apexi World Sport (1 or 2) and the RS*R Ex Mag are supposed to be the quietest cat backs you can buy. With that being said I have no personal knowledge of this. But every time someone asks which exhaust is the quietest those 2 are given as answers.

can any one tell why, when the same thing was done on an lx (by the way exact same engine)it sounded no different than stock,it had no negative side effects,(loudness) perhaps headers do make a big difference?
any one.....

Re: wouold doing this help me get rid of the rice sound

so you took off the stock manifold, cat, and silencer replacing them with a header and straight pipe leaving only the actual muffler at the rear?

that doesn't surprise me too much that it doesnt sound so good. the cat actually helps quiet things down a good bit (esp a stock cat) and the silencer will help knock down some sound as well. i bet it is nice and loud inside the car with the silencer off too isnt it

Re: wouold doing this help me get rid of the rice sound

Why does everybody worry about sound.. If your car's fast, who the fuck cares? Worry more about go-fast parts rather than "oh my neons aren't bright enough" or "my 50000 stickers are peeling off" or "my car sounds ricey".. NO SHIT! It's a 1.6 liter Civic with a fart can! If you don't want to sound ricey, you should have got a V8.
