Turbo...so many to choose from
B16A2 swap into a 97 Civic EX... built up bottom end...what turbo do i buy to get blistering fast 1/4 mile, but it needs to be a fairly broad boost range. I don't want a lot of turbo lag if possible. Can someone suggest the type and size of turbo to put on a B16...don't worry about overkill. I want a turbo that fits and gives me power and lots of it over a broad range of rpms. Maybe a turbo for the GX20 Beast. Maybe someone could set up a poll and see which kind people favor. I NEED INPUT!!!

well if your on the stock bore id say a prescion sc32 or sc61 if you dont have a turbo kit (manifold wastegate etc.) check out full-race.com

You got to give a little more info than that. By what you said I assume you only have a built bottom end and no "kit" parts yet...ie ( manifold, injectors, ecu or hack ), you can build your motor around your turbo but i would get atleast 440 cc injectors and a t3/t4 setup should land you in the 300 to 350 hp area. Your stock clutch isn't gonna hold up very long so expect to buy one pretty soon unless you dont drive fast at all.

I'm still in the process of finding a B16 to build up. I want a B16 block and i'm going to probably buy heads seperately w/ roller rockers and a wilder cam. I have the funds, just haven't found what i want for what i can justify paying. I am going to build the bottom end up no matter what. Depending on the type of turbo kit i buy, i will get different intake manifolds, injectors and so on. I need to find out more details on what i need to buy first. My first post was laying out the 'for sure' details of what i plan to do and i was hoping that someone would elaborate on what i outlined. Does anyone know of a place that sells built up B16's that are ready to run right out of the box...or where i could get a quasi-custom B16 with parts i want and w/o having to worry about selling parts i don't need. The other part i had a quick question about was the transmission. Do i need to buy a new transmission to fit the B16 and handle the higher levels of power or will a new clutch pretty much solve that.

I would get one from ATP, precision makes great turbos but I'm a fan of ball bearing turbos and atp is the way to go.

They make them as T3/T4 drop ins too, so you can use them with any standard turbo kits and you don't have to go crazy trying to reweld flanges. Their claimed numbers are a little high so I'd expect a little less than what they claim, but their numbers are to the wheels not to the flywheel like precision. |

Ok, you set up the link to go to the Garrett GT Ball Bearing Series turbos...now are those better that say a T3/T04E turbo? Would either of them work well on my D16 until the day i find the B16 i want. I know it needs a different header and stuff, but the turbo wouldn't blow up my stock engine right now would it?

Out of those 3 turbos the only one I would go with would be the GT28RS. It makes more power than the either two, and spools quicker. That turbo is a good fit on a D-series.

A GT35R is a straight up Garrett turbo, with a GT35 turbine and compressor wheel, and a dual ball bearing center section. Usually with a 1.06 or .82 A/R T3 style exhaust housing, but can be had with a T4 housing. The T3 housing uses a 4-bolt discharge instead of the more commonly used 5-bolt discharge that came stock on most T3's on factory cars that used internal wastegates. The 4-bolt housing doesn't facilitate an internal wastegate. A T56 is a 6-speed transmission used in Corvettes, F-bodies, Vipers, and 03/04 Cobras. T3 turbine housings do not come in a .68 A/R variant, but tangential T4 housings do. Any way you cut the cake, a .68 A/R T4 housing is entirely too big for a stock B16. Anything else you'd like to add? |

Ok, settle down i have a question. I have a d16 and want a turbo, but some day in the next 3 years or less, there will be a nice new B16A2 sitting all nice and happily under the hood, would the turbo fit on the B16 and D16 w/ a diff header of course.
