Hey guys I am in a spot that I don't know what the crap to do, to many decisions. Just want to get you guys input to see what you would do. Heres the story:
I have a 91 Civic Si. The the ole A6 finally gave up at 204K. So I had a Y8 block and head laying here that I was going to build so I stepped up plans on that. (P.S. I also have a entire D series turbo kit I have pieced together [not crappy parts] minus the FMIC piping) The block was bare when I got it except the oil pan and crank. So I took the crank and had it balanced and the block bored .020 over. Now it has new eagle H beam rods, and SRP 10.5:1 c/r pistons going in. The head has been port and polished, larger valves, but still has the original cam. This will be held on with new head bolts of course. The v-tec will be controled by a MSD RPM activated switch. Now here is the crunch. Everyone says it's easier to pull the tranny out with the motor and just connect it to the new one. Well the tranny grinds in 2nd, 3rd, and some times 4th because of bad syncros. So if I am going to pull the tranny out I might as well go ahead and replace it. Well if I do that then I might as well replace the axle since my CV joint is bad on the pass. side. Also I still have to buy new plug wires, new head gasket kit, and new valve cover bolts. Not to mention I want a cam, header (if I syay N/A for a while), and a Skunk2 intake mani. Now after I do all this to my civic I don't want it to be a daily driver so I plan to buy another car to drive daily. I either want a CRX, Del Sol, or Fiero (don't flame I just love them for some reason, and yes I know about the gas tank situation). The guy who painted my car has a 88 Fiero, 4cyl, 5 speed, with a clean metal flake green on it. Spotless tan leather interior. The motor burns a lot of oil so the quit driving it. He said he would let me have it for $500, but I know he will take less. Checked on a rebuild kit and I can get one for about $400 with everything including new pistons and rods. So just say $1500 I could have a basically brand new Fiero. Now keep in mind I am only part time bringing home about $260 every 2 weeks and about to start col. back after Christmas. Now for those who stuck with me through this whole stroy (sorry for it being so long) what would you do? (P.S. I have 10.5:1 c/r so if I go turbo it will be with mild boost with a T28 turbo on 450 cc injectors) Thanks, Doug

Re: What should I do???
B18 Turbo civic for $2500 is an awesome deal if it runs good. Just the swap with the turbo would cost at least that much. Should have gone for it. Plus, as a rule of thumb, it's cheaper to buy someone elses work than to do your own.

Re: What should I do???
Yeah see I had just got my kit on and my car painted so I didn't want to ditch my car. Also his was a 91 Civic Sedan 5 speed with the B18. It wasn't turbo it was N/A with high compression. 11.5:1 I believe. I already had my block, head, turbo kit, and rods when he made the offer though.
Wish I would have thought more about it. He said he would sell me the entire swap for $1800 then went down to $1500 two weeks later. Didn't have the cash so I dismissed it. Not to mention he said him and his friend would take my engine out and do the swap for $300.

Re: What should I do???
I'm planning on doing a turbo ferio after I finish my civic. The 4 cyl ones wernt that great, if your going to go with one the v6 gt fastback is the one to get. The 86's were almost as fast a the vette's, I'v seen them run low 11's with turbos on stock bottom end.

Re: What should I do???
I'm not looking for speed thats what the civic will be for. I am looking for a daily driver with a good MPG. When I want speed I will come get the turbo Civic

Re: What should I do???
I'd say just rebuild the civic, get it running good (btw i have a apexi vafc, header, stage 2 comp cam, and Megan adj. cam gear for the d series vtec if your interested) since you already have the parts and stuff, then go get the fieiro.

Re: What should I do???
I found a dude to do the swap for me. He said he would switch out the engines for $200 is that a good price? I know me and my friend could do it, but we hardly have time to do it. It would take us a month to get it done versus a couple of days for him.
