Re: I Can't Open My Hood

can't really help you, but i can relate... my hood release has gotten looser and looser... to the point now I have to pull it all the way and then pull the wire...

There's gotta be another way if you approach it from beneath. I'll check it out and see if find something out.

Re: I Can't Open My Hood

I have a 93 cutlass with a messed up hood latch. I couldn't get it open for a long time untill one day I just got pissed off and didn't care anymore. So I just pulled on the hood as hard as I could and it poped open. Well I filled my oil which was a good short term reward, but now in the long run my latch doesn't hold too well. I have to tie the hood down, lol So if you don't mind the broken latch just pull it hard as hell. I recomend replacing the latch ASAP or install hood pins. O and if your think 'WTF is this guy thinking? Break my hood latch?' Think would I rather replace a latch or my siezed motor?

Re: Re: I Can't Open My Hood

I have a '93 cutty & couldn't opne the hood for months. The cable to the latch broke & the latch was froze. I took it to a body shop & paid 1 hour of labor to get the hood opened ($75), and went to a junk yard & got a new latch ($10).

If you have problems with the cable, just cut it about 8~10 inches from the latch and leave abut 4 inches of the internal cable exposed. Tuck it up under the hood so you can fish it out & pull the cable with a pair of pliers to open.

aaahhh... American cars from the early '90's...

Re: I Can't Open My Hood

If you smakc it & it opens, coat the latch with a thick lube like with litihium grease or you'll be sorry. The only way to get to the latch from underneath is to pull off all the plastic cowlings, etc.. off. Tried that several times for hours at a time. One problem, nothing to grab on to release the latch.

Have fun.....
