Rough idle followed by failure to start
Recently I started my Xterra and it was running so rough it wouldn't stay on and cut off. It then would not restart. It seemed like it was going to start and would fire briefly but ran so rough it immediately cut off. After leaving it alone for 30 minutes or so it restarted and ran OK. After a few days i noticed the idle got a little rough and eventually the same thing happened. Stopped for coffee..got back in and it started but was so rough it cut off. then wouldn't restart. left alone for 30 minutes and it started back. It still idled a little rough but ran OK. I replaced the plugs after the first incident and it ran fine for a few days then reoccurred. I know i need to check the fire and fuel systems when it fails, but am curious if anyone has experienced a similar problem that could save me some time.

Re: Rough idle followed by failure to start
Well well, looks like I have the EXACT same problem...Saturday it chugged like crazy and died for an hour or so then ran til this afternoon...except I towed it this time to the Xterra dealership a couple of hours ago and have it sitting in the lot....I think it may be related to the whole fuel pump thingy and the recall going on...when I turn the key I do not hear the familiar little buzz the fuel pump makes...I actually thought the fuel injectors sputtered, but what do I know.....I'll find out tomorrow and update you....

Mine is at Nissan now. I drove it in Friday morning. When they went to crank it to move it wouldn't crank. They left me a message that it appears to be a fuel problem and that the fuel pump didn't seem to have power. I think its related to the recall. I left the guy a message to call me and to make sure they have considered the recall issue. When I called before I took it in they said they had replaced a few of the senders in the recall, but none of them had problems like mine. I'll let you know what I hear back from them.

They guy called me today and said the same thing. It was caused by the recall issue.
