Question 2001 Tahoe intermittent a/c problem

My '01 Tahoe stops blowing cold after idling for 5 min or so. Not just less cold, I mean it blows hot. It blows very cold again after driving for 5-10 minutes. It has also done this after driving if I stop and shut it off for a short time. When I start it up, it has to be driven at 30 mph or more for about 5-10 minutes before it stops blowing hot again. Any suggestions before I take it in for service?

Fred

Your high pressure sensor is bad. Had the same thing happen on my 96 Trans Am.

I had the same problem with my 2001 Tahoe, not sure if you have rear air and computer climate control but after 6 visits to the deal with no luck i was able to find the same problem in an other forum. Tahoes have two temperature sensors for both the rear view miror and climate control. The sensor in front of the radiator is for the rear view mirror, the dealer will insist that that is the problem sensor and replace it with the head control unit. The problem is the second sensor that is located behind the passenger side turn signal light, it gives the climate control the outside air temp. Part costs about $20 dollars and you can replace it with no tools, one clip and one wire...total time less than five minutes. You need to have the dealer pull up sensors in front of the truck and point it out to them, my dealer told me my truck has one or the other, but not both...they were wrong. A/C has been working great all summer.
