Unhappy Cracked Transmission case

Hello all,
I'm new to this message board and this is my 1st post.

It seems that my 97 Yukon 4dr/4wd has a cracked tranny case.
It appears that the weight of the transfer case and 145,000 miles have finally taken it's toll.
The transmission tech (Lee Myles) says he has come across this problem a couple of times before.
His fix was to repair or replace the cracked case and then fashion a support/mount from the rear cross member to the transfer case to support the weight.
None of these repairs have ever come back to him.
Has anyone else had this problem?
What did you do to fix it?
Does anyone know if GM or the after market has a fix for this problem?
It seems common enough.

looking fwd to your replies & thanks in advance
