Question is 4spd manual a bad thing?!!!!!!!

I found a great deal on a 88-91 civic hatch but its a 4 spd manual not a 5 spd... what are the advantages and disadvandages to this? post or email me at [email protected] (because I can never find my posts after I make them)

Depends: want great gas mileage and don't care if you are limited to the speed of a metro or acceleration of a bus? Good thing. If that's not your goal, a 70 hp car just isn't for you `,). I have one, they're a little peppy, but not very much.

well that makes it an std. and they are underpowered and the 4 speed doesnt help. the gearing is longer so you wil have even less acceleration.

Not very hard... keep in mind you also have none of the options, and the barebones model pretty much.

The way gas rates are now, I am happy with my STD 4 speed hatch. I bought it for a VERY reasonable price ($150 w/ blown head, cost me $50 to get the head machined) It depends on what you want to do with the car. Some people like them because they are the lightest of the bunch and cheaper and you can upgrade them if you want. You can do the same things w/ a STD as you can do with the higher model Si. Don't get me wrong though, having a Si is easier to do swaps in, but they come at very high prices.

STD is great the 4 spd is awesome for AutoX pop in 2nd your set.
I love the 4 spd but the motor sucks as far as power it'll take a beating and get awesome milage but like all D motors not a race motor.
Get it swap a B16 in you'll see why i still love my hatch

if your going to put an LS in there why dose the 4 speed matter?
your going to swap it out anyway.i would get it if you are really doing the LS swap. its not that bad...untill you put it to the floor in 4th... form what it sounds like your not going to have that motor or trans for vary long, you can handle it.

Re: is 4spd manual a bad thing?!!!!!!!

I think the 4-speed is awful for everyday driving. Just trying to keep up with 5:00 traffic is hard enough. But the gas mileage is the only thing that keeps me driving it. I really miss a 5th gear on long trips though. I wish honda would have given it a little more power than 70 horses.
