Camry 1993 gas pedal is freezing

Every morning or if I don’t start car 1-2 hours. In the first moment my gas pedal does not move. I have to hard press and after its okay, but I wary to brake cable. Or some time I have to open the hood and manually move freeze throttle. I lubricated this part but still the same problem. May be this problem inside or cable? Or some else?

If somebody no what is the problem.

Thanks.

Try cleaning the inside of the throttle-body with some throttle body or carb cleaner. Pay particular attention to the back side of the butterfly valve and around the throttle body where the butterfly valve seats. Make sure you do a good job on those areas. This should cure your problem.

Yep I concur, sticky butterfly in throttle body. Mine does it often. Use some spray cleaner and clean it up and it'll be go to go.

Leo190,

Here's a link with some great instructions on how it's done. It's shows as a V6 but the procedure is exactly the same on any engine.

Thank for advice. I will try to do this. Do I have to remove whole part throttle body, or I have to remove only hose what go from air filter?

And I posted before I have a bad engine vibration on drive when standing on the traffic light. May be this butterfly could give me this problem too?

Thanks Leo

Re: Camry 1993 gas pedal is freezing

Leo190,

Yes, just disconnect the hose and carefully wedge it out of the way of the entrance to the throttle body. You do all this cleaning with the engine off. It might be best to have a second person inside the car holding the gas pedal to the floor so that the butterfly valve will be open (horizontal). Have the other person alternately press the gas pedal to the floor and then release it a few times so you see how the butterfly works. Then, have that person hold it to the floor so the butterfly is fully open so you can easily clean it. I actually use my fingers to clean the backside of the butterfly and the area around where it seats inside the throttle body. Just spread the cleaner around with your fingers. This leaves no residue from a rag or broken bristles from a toothbrush. Put the car all back together and start it up; it may be difficult to start but it eventually will. It may run rough and idle rough for a few minutes and it will exhibit some black smoke at first, but take it for a ride for about 5-10 minutes and it will all smooth out. Your car should also idle a bit smoother after this treatment.
