power steering pump

okie dokie, so i go pick up a new bolt for the tensioner. goes in just fine, then im checking it to see if i would be able to tighten the belt down with it. so im turnin away, and it gets a little hard. i just think its some dirt or grime in the thread, so i keep turning. all of a sudden, just like with the previous bolt, the head pops off. so im thinking i need to get a whole new tensioner assembly. but i called the dealership and its like, 85 bucks, and they have to order it too. i dont have that kind of money right now, and im still stuck w/out powersteering. and to top it all off, i still have to put the new pump in, which is pointless now that i dont have a tensioner stil. anywho, any pointers on how else to fix this problem, id be very thankful.

Re: power steering pump

i think you need a whole new car.
i have read that if one bolt keeps breaking it is because the car is worn out.

Re: power steering pump

the dealership sux. i've been goin there to get parts and they always have to order the shit in.
yeah, just get the whole assembly. all i can say is that i hope you know what you're doing. is the power steering pump the only thing that's causing the power steering to not work?

Re: power steering pump

yeah, im pretty sure, cuz the steering still works just fine. its just harder to turn. i have no way of testing the pump so i was going to put a belt on and see if it worked. the previous owner- who is unreliable- said it didnt. but when i put the belt on, and turned the bolt to tighten it, the head snapped off. i know the whole tensioning assembely is seized up cuz i even tried moving it when i took it out of the car. i just need a whole new one, or see if i can lube this one up or something. i know what im doing for the most part, its not that difficult. test lines, belts, etc. see what doesnt work. (at least i hope i know what im doing, sometimes i think i do, and im totally wrong-but most of the times im right on)
