i just got my 94 z about 3 days ago. it was fine the first day just cruisin around, but now when i get on the gas the car dosent accelerate smooth at all, it bucks and jumps just like when u r about to run out of gas. the car was sitting for about 6 months so i thought it could be bad gas, so i put in about $10 93 octane and i still have the same problem. im thinking maybe bad injector(s), spark plugs/wires maybe? if anybody could help me out that would be great, thanx.

Re: 94 z28 problems plz help!!!!!!!!!!!
First thing first, scan your computer for codes, you can use a paper clip or short piece of wire plug it into A and B of your diagnostic port under the dash, it should be the first to on the top right of the plug. Go from there. In case you don't know how to read the codes, no offence, your check engine light will light in short bursts. The first code will always be 12, one pulse pause two pulses. It'll do that three times. then if there are others it will do them after that. It'll run through the codes three times and start over with 12 three times. Then you can just get back on here and I'm sure someone will know the codes.

Re: 94 z28 problems plz help!!!!!!!!!!!
right ON!!!! someone is stealing my advice .....*taps foot* lol eh, so long as its you 92RS ill tolerate it
but also, with a 94 that means LT1, optispark could be fried. although i would think that would be firnig odd even at idle. but those distributors have a history of burning up on the inside, and it throws off the spark. in essence it grounds out and fires all 8 cylenders at the same time. if yours is just startin to let go, it could just do it every once in a while or under load. but id definately sounds like an ignition problem of some sort. rather than fuel or air. could be the ICM, had a few of those lately on the forum, oh crap, maybe its contageous, GET AWAY GET AWAY!!!!!!

Could also be the coil, and not so much the optispark. It's a much cheaper replacement part and way way way easier to install... I'd try it first...
BTW, I know "checking for codes" is a good way to diagnose things sometimes, but in 4th gens, if it is throwing a code, the SES light will be on. If the SES light is not on, then there is no sense in checking for thrown codes... |

ah HA kemosabi, i learned something new today. except, not all codes set the light. the light will only turn on after the code hits for say, three times, maybe two. at that point the computer requests the MIL (malfunction indication lamp) illumination. this is to protect from random problems. that dont need repairs. so he could have codes, and not a lit up display.

Also on 4th Gens the SES light comes on only if there is catastrophic engine failure or is there is an emissions problem.
I bet $1000 bucks the OPTIcrap is dying. I suggest also replacing you water pump when you do the Optispark, because if the WP goes out it takes the Opti with it. |

Re: 94 z28 problems plz help!!!!!!!!!!!
the problem with the optispark system is inhearant to its design, its made of plastic, but has a high speed bearing in it. it is fairly common for that bearing to heat up, and when it does, it starts to melt the housing, which starts to deform, when the damage is bad enough, the contact points come into constant contact, which sends a spark to all 8 cylinders, which causes the ignition system to fail.
