2001 GT Coupe Speaker Help
My rear speakers are blown and would like to replace them. I looked at the bottom of the speaker and it looks like they are 2 ohms. Am I correct? The lettering is not very legible.

strange...
hmmm... most car audio applications use 4 ohm, if you use less than 4 ohm than you may be risking damaging the amplifier or the radio. I've got a 96 grand am and my back speakers are 4 ohm, or I think the stock ones that were in there were even 8 ohm. Point being I'm not sure about your model of radio, very few radios can take a 2 ohm load, if you have a digital multimeter you can actually measure the resistance of your speakers, it's the only sure way to tell. Just make sure to check before going ahead with any installations. I'll look into it some more and tell you if i find anything.

not 2 ohm
I searched a retail site, and all the speakers that came out to be a fit for your car are the same as mine. You need 4 ohm speakers, I doubt you'll find many 2 ohm ones anyway. lol Now since your speakers are 6 X 9 's like mine I recomend getting Infinity brand speakers. The sound quality is amazing and the price isn't bad either. The ones I got were 6 by 9 Infinity reference series. A speaker change will really impact sound quality, the difference will BLOW YOUR MIND! www.etronics.com is a good place to shop for car audio. Good luck I hope this helped.

Thanks for the quick reply and research! I didn't think of measuring them myself. I will give that a try.

No Problem, I remember how frustrated I was when I first started playing around with my system. Now there isn't a single piece that came with the car that's still there, haha. How'd you blow your speakers anyway, do you have an amplifier or did the radio alone blow them out?
