Mersedes 300SL Roadster

Hello, friends!

I hope my WIP will be interesting to you.
In this thread I'll build 300SL roadster (W198) based on new Tamiha KIT.

I started from side pannels of the body:

Door handles, we still need in the future

Roadster - means without a roof!

Making the correct form

Stay tuned! Will be interesting!

Re: Mersedes 300SL Roadster

Hmmm...MB made a ton of changes going from coupe to convertible, from the space frame, interior, body and trim. Do you think you can incorporate them all? Why not start with the Italeri version and kit bash where possible with the Tamiya version?

I think I get to reproduce all the differences between the coupe and convertible.

KIT Italeri has many errors in its geometry and shapes.
I plan to make a full Transkei for Tamiya to make the roadster. Therefore, it is better to base it on the Tamiya

Re: Mersedes 300SL Roadster

You're the first person I've heard say that the Italeri kit has "many errors". The consensus online seems to be that it is pretty accurate in shape, with the possible exception of the window frame. There are those who think that it is the best of Italeri's car kits, even. Would you like to share what errors you think there are, so those of us with an Italeri kit to build can work out how to correct them?

All the best,
matt

I have not investigated this question thoroughly.
From what I was able to note:
- Wrong shape of the front fenders - they're too "chubby"
- Too small taillights
- Wrong, in my opinion, the shape of the headlights
- The overall shape of the body slightly "blurry" on the edges and panel lines.

It's just a body.
I do not consider the interior, and the technical part.

I think Tamiya plus my TransKIT will also be interesting modelers

Re: Mersedes 300SL Roadster

Interesting project, I also wondered how much work it would take, as it's far superior to the Italeri effort.

I have to wonder if Tamiya would eventually make the Roadster, if there's enough of the guts of the kit to require no more than perhaps 50% new parts.

I've always preferred the Roadster to the gullwing, but the Tamiya kit is so nice, I'll definitely build the gullwing.

If Tamiya release a roadster , it will be a disaster for me If you like my work , you can buy and build a TransKIT roadster from Tamiya

I'm glad you're doing this because I'd never be able to give up those pretty gullwings...looks like a sweet conversion!
