Tamiya LaFerrari

Built this one earlier this year for an expanded review that is in the June, 2014 issue of Scale Auto Magazine.

I painted it TS-16 yellow & black, wheels are a mixture of Alclad Magnesium & Stainless. Seats are painted a tobacco color that I still had from my Carrera GT build.

I used the optional photoetch set and carbon decals. The decals go on nicely, though you'll have to apply gloss clear and matte clear to them depending on where they go for an authentic finish. A lot of time was spent on the interior decals, where you end up barely seeing 10% of them

Fun kit to build, though I'll admit I hate doing tons of decals...if it were just for me, I'd have foregone the carbon decals. I've seen the Revell kit, look forward to building it. It is nearly as detailed as the Tamiya kit, and maybe has a bit more detail under the engine cover.

Looks beautiful! I have been tempted to get this kit. You did a wonderful job on it. Were the doors and engine cover hard to get fitted?

Re: Tamiya LaFerrari

Superb! I have to admit I was somewhat ambivalent toward this kit - until now. Now I feel I must build one to go alongside my Enzo.

Engine cover is very easy to fit and open/close, doors easy to fit, but a bit difficult to open and hold open and then close again. They have a notch in the upper hinge to help hold them open.

I saw the Revell LaFerrari built up and parts on Saturday, it's really nice as well. No opening doors, but more engine detail seemingly than Tamiya. Here in the US the MSRP is about 1/4 the Tamiya price.

Re: Tamiya LaFerrari

Very nice model as always! I like the color you used for the seats. But I don't like the Tamiya carbon decals, to me they don't look anything like real carbonfiber.

Beautiful build.
What's the secret to the tabacco color?

in the way that the Revell Enzo had some better details in the engine bay (like the oil reservoirs for instance) or more detail in general?

It's the leftover "Ascot Brown" that I used for my 1/12 Carrera GT build.

You mix 3 Tamiya acrylic colors:

XF-3 Flat Yellow
XF-7 Flat Red
XF-9 Hull Red

XF-3 : 2 parts + XF-7 : 1 part + XF-9 : 4 parts

It's a great color! I overcoated with semigloss clear for the leather sheen.
