Completed: Tamiya 1/24th Toyota Celica Turbo LB Gr5

I haven’t seen one of these built for while so here we are. Bought from eBay for about a fiver, the kit was in perfect shape apart from the rear screen which has a big crack in it. Never mind. This is a later issue, identified by the lack of electric motor and the website address on the box.

It’s a super-easy build, there’s probably only about 25 parts! So I stripped the toy-like chrome from the wheels and wing and added some S27 seatbelts. The decals are from the kit and I have to say, considering the stick the Big T sometimes gets, they’re really white (even over TS-15 blue) and laid down well with help from the usual solutions, but did take some time to release from the backing paper so patience was needed. Nevertheless this build only took about three days in total – a new record for me!

This kit was designed 35 years ago and with that in mind it builds up to a nice replica, and another cool car for the shelf.

Very cool build. Would make a great "period" display with the Zakspeed Capri and Porsche 934. I like the stripped chrome of wheels - what did you use to paint them up? TS17, Alclad?
