Chevy K1500 AC Problem
I have a 1996 Chevy K1500 that the AC just quit cooling. Compressor engages, and it shows a steady 37 on AC guage with no flux. Anyone know why it just blows hot air?

Re: Chevy K1500 AC Problem
Your low side is reading 37 psi....I assume this is the reading when the compressor is running....is the low side reading ambient temp when not running? By that I mean, if the outside air is 80F, the low side should read about 80 psi with the compressor not running, slightly higher on a warm engine.....unfortunately you don't post the high side.....I assume your clutch fan is working, or the high side would get too high and cause the compressor to cut out.....
However, depending on temp and humidity, with 37 psi(this is a little high) you should have cooling......hold the low side line....is it sweating or cold? If it is, but you do not get any cooling out of the registers, then you have a problem with your temp door..... If it is warm, you may need more refrigerant......another thing is, if you are only using one of those cheap fill gauges on the low side, they are not very accurate......would help to know what that high side is doing.... |

What does the bottom of compressor look like? If it is oily- there is your leak- commonly known as "belly leaker"

Re: Chevy K1500 AC Problem
The bottom and all connections show dry. Thanks for the info though.
