2001 Dodge ram Running Rough and Stalling after replacing the cylinder heads

I have a 2001 Dodge ram Sport 1500 with a 5.9. I had a bad/burnt valve so i replaced the cylinder heads. When i started it after the repairs it was idleing really rough, shaking, and it popped through the intake a few times and would stall if i took my foot off of the gas pedal . I replaced the cap and rotor checked and adjusted all of the wires. All of the problems where still the same. Now it wont start at all. p.s The distributor is tight and was not moved at all during the repair. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Kinda sounds like a vacuum leak doesn't it?

Re: 2001 Dodge ram Running Rough and Stalling after replacing the cylinder heads

You need to start all over. Pull the #1 Plug. stick a long, skinny screwdriver thru the spark plug hole. Turn the crank bolt while watching the screwdriver (or whateverr you use). When the screwdriver reaches it's Apex (Highest Point), keep turning until it starts it's Apogee (Starting to Fall). Inbetween the Apex and Apogee is the sweet spot for TDC. Restab your Distributor. Try again. Hope for success.

If not, then you have gotten in over your head, and now it is time to have it towed to your local, honest and trust-worthy mechanic.

Timing is just about the MAIN cause of back-firing thru the intake. (but not the ONLY cause)

If the physical timing is good, do a smoke test to rule out unmetered air leaks.
