Exclamation Possible Ban on Aftermarket parts coming in Louisiana

I'm reposting this because it affects you guys more than others:

Buddy of mine is one of the manufacturers of HIDs. Small business based out of New Orleans. He texted me a link to LA HB 583. It calls for the illegalization of aftermarket headlights for all motor vehicles in the state. And would call for the REMOVAL of those installed. Ban would make it illegal to get a brake tag or inspection sticker if they are installed. It would literally put his instate store out of business. He does a ton of sales online, so he would be OK, but he'd prolly have to move to a friendlier state. So fired employees, lost taxes, etc etc if this thing passes. Why would a state want to remove any chance of tax revenue from the sale of a headlight is beyond me.

Anyone feel like sending some mail into the state rep here, is all of his info

This guys reasoning is "because they give him headaches"

Here is the REALLY DANGEROUS language that is included:

B. No person shall operate a motor vehicle that is equipped with any head
16 lamp, auxiliary or fog lamp, rear lamp, signal lamp, or reflector, or parts of any of
17 the foregoing, which tend to change the original design or performance, unless the
18 lamp or parts of the lamp is in compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
19 Standard No. 108, as adopted by the National Highway Traffic Safety
20 Administration.

Could potentially effect every aftermarket lighting system you have whether its KC or running lamps, or those little orange lamps on top your truck etc an exterior lights.

Don't let this pass and set precedence in your state.

Re: Possible Ban on Aftermarket parts coming in Louisiana

I was always under the impression that installing HIDs in a car that never came with them from the factory, was an illegal modification. Which is why most packaging of aftermarket HID kits, specifically say that they are for "off-road use only".
