It would be interesting to see what this model would look like if it was still in production today. Maybe Pontiac would make a decent sports car out of it.

It would be interesting to see....Im not sure why they quite making them to be truthful. I think it was b/c of all the problems with them. So far we have never experienced anything wrong with ours. They were cheap and quick. Heck, maybe Pontiac will come out with a Concept Fiero. It sure would be nice to see...

Problems!?? the only problematic car was the 84 4cyl with out the recall work done to it.

I've had 2 fieros over the past 5 years and the only problems i've ever had were all self-inflicted. not a single Manufacturing anomoly out of either of them.

Mods:
Heads Shave .020
SI Satinless steel valves
higher pressure valve springs and stainless retainers
2.5" Brullen Muffler
2.5" Catco High Flow Cat
4" 5Zidgen stainless tip
Ported Stock Enxhaust manifolds
Intake Manifold Shave 1.13" for higher intake air velocity (was a wet nitrous car)
rebuilt stock Tranny with TransGo Shift Kit (RV/HD valve kit)
Hand Wound Springs From a Friend at Panoz Fabrication
Bilstein Sturts/shocks
Aluminum Cradle mount bushings
Corbeau A4 fully adjustable racing seats
Alpine CD Player
MB Quart 4" coaxial (2 sets in dash)
Infinity Reference 4x6" coaxial in B Pillar
EFI Systems Air/Fuel Injector duty cycle monitor
Dynotuner.net -Programmable engine management system-
18x7.5 and 18x9" Chrome Wheels
Kumho ECSTA 712 225-40 front and 245-40-18 rear -tires-
Lotus Commerative Edition Chrome Orange -Sikkens Epoxy Base-
DBU mixing black roof and wing (mirror finish with 6000 grit sand paper)
Polished Stainless Steel Heat deflectors under rear bumper
antenna delete - amplified antenna mounted inside the car -works great-
93 Camaro Headlights (DOT approved)
Cut front hood for reduced lift at high speed
Black 01 Cobra Hood Scoop on rear deck for additional Engine bay cooling
Autometer Phantom 2 1/16" Oil Pressure Guage (elec)
Intake air pulled from rear Trunk for consistant air temps.
Orbital Dry Cell battery
Battery relocated to front spare tire compartment
Poly suspension bushings
front and rear anti sway bar upgrade
Rear Grand Am Brakes
special material front pads (Father-in-law Engineer for Napa Braking & Chassis)
Stainless Steel braided Brake lines
Crane PS92 Coil

thats all i can think of right now...

New heads since i've pulled the nitrous off the car. the compression and leak down are well with in factory specs. running 62/24 jetting from Nitrous express nitrous system she'll run 12.92@109mph -have proof and video footage. 1.78-1.81 60' times on the 18" tires, 1.13g on 200' skid pad at Road Atlanta and i've run it quite a few times at the Atlanta area SCCA Solo events at Turner field. with me driving 59-57 second runs, with a skilled driver 54-55 second laps have been logged. This has been my daily driven car since i bought it in sept of 99. 126k on odo, 50k on engine less than 10k on fresh heads, and less than 1000 miles on new tranny. new every corner wheel bearings.

The Older 87and 88 had problems catching fire. I don't think the 86 had this problem. Maybe the 85 had the fire problem too. Overall like i said. We have never experienced any costly or major problems with our 86 Fiero 2M6

i was told that pontiac stopped production because they were either threatened to be sued, or were sued by ferrari.
