2001 Dakota Temperature won't change

There are no real details in the Chilton book. Does the control operate an actuator. Are there any typical problems. It is stuck on cold...not good even in Tennessee.

Details man.....is there coolant in the system?? Have u changed the thermostat?? If yes then check or change the temp sensor. Make sure u have hot hoses up top and below, but change when cold only.

Yes, thre is coolant in the system.

The hoses are hot going to the heater. There is no need to change the thermostat since the hot water is going to the heater. My problem has to do with the control not changing the temperature.

The temp sensor that

shows on the dash is reading OK. Are you saying there is a different sensor for the H/AC.

Re: 2001 Dakota Temperature won't change

In the engine compartment, there's a sensor that reads the coolant temp which in turn sends to the dash gauge.. if that's a no go, then maybe the gauge is bad but I think the cluster is a whole so replacing might be costly.. check the chiltons book for coolant temp sensor I'm sure its located somewhere on the front top of engine. Advice on what u find out.

Why would the temp sensor

be a problem? The problem is there is NO control of the temperature on the heating control. Everything else is working correctly.

I am looking for help on how the heating control works and how to fix it.

I'm so confused here.. is it the engine temp or the air temp coming from the vents u are trying to fix??? You have to provide details when posting we are not mind readers. No disrespect to you just askn for more info here.

Clarification

The "temperature control" meaning the controls for the heating and AC. You move to cold or hot and it does not change the air flow. There is hot water entering and exiting the heater unit. It is the temperature control. There is no problem with any other part of the vehicle. IT has plenty of coolant etc.

Have you tried to do a reverse flush on your cooling system ? If not do that and you will see how much crap you have in it .
