Question Trans-1972 Pontiac Catalina Safari Wagon

Does anyone know if a 1972 Cadillac transmission will fit a 1972 Pontiac Catalina Safari Wagon? I have been told that it will. The '72 Cad Trans has a 13 bolt pattern on the fluid pan with Hydromatic stamped on it. This matches my Pontiac THM400 Transmisson. BUT, the Output Shaft is 13" to my 9". I realize that cutting down the drive is necessary if this is a match.

Welcome to AF. Usually the Buick, Olds, Pontiacs were the same I don't think the Cad will bolt up. Check with Fatsco trans in New Jersey, they have a website, good people.

Re: Trans-1972 Pontiac Catalina Safari Wagon

Thank you for the response. My Mechanic said that it will fit after checking the bolt pattern. (to the engine) The Cadillac trans is a 1972 400 GM trans. I'm excited since I got it for FREE! My Pontiac Wagon just broke down. (I expected it) Thanx again!! Peter
