Angry My car won't start (Ford Telstar)

Hi everyone, I recently brought a 1989 Ford Telstar online and it worked fine until about 2 days later when it stop kicking over when I go to turn the key. It will sometimes want to kick over, sometimes do nothing at all and sometimes make a weird screeching noise. I have replaced the spark plugs so far but I think it may be the starter motor Any ideas on what else it might be? Before I go to waste money on a new starter for nothing Thank you

Have you tried to jump start it?
Have you measured battery voltage?
The screeching sound may be loose belt which kept the alternator charging which will kill the battery.

I would start by seeing what the draw is on the battery while cranking that may tell you what to do next to me it sounds like something is getting in the way of the current to the starter.
