An H-pipe does tend to be louder than an X-pipe. The X quiets the system down while giving a completely different sound. Like oldschool said. you wont find these on newer cars because they use y-pipes with a single pipe going to the muffler.
Taking the CAT off will have no effect on either sound or performance.
Asking what type of muffler is the best sounding is like me asking what year Bonneville is the best. You will get different suggestions from different people.
