Decal time is here again!

Took a few pictures to detail the technique for carbon fibre decaling. Started with the seat back. The Tamiya Evo VII doesn't come with carbon fibre decals for the seats but regular decals can be used instead.

I first applied some masking tape to the area to be decaled and traced the outline. Remove it and you have a template.

Stick the tape to the back of the decal sheet and cut, I usually make it a little bigger to be on the safe side, the extra can be trimmed off later. I'm using Museum Collection Kevlar for the first time.

Then it is a matter of applying the decal, using setting solution and a hairdryer. I use a brush, cotton buds and even a toothpick to make the decal conform. Cut the excess off with a very sharp knife, using a bit of setting solution to release the excess. Now the seat is done! The Museum Collection decals turned out to be pretty good - very tough but still conformed nicely with a bit of work.

Now on with the rest of them

P.S. The seats and all the other bits to be decaled were first painted a gloss black to give the decals something to stick to - matt surface doesn't work as well and can lead to 'silvering'. After the decals are applied and dried a clear coat of matt, gloss or semi gloss can be applied for the correct finish.
