Paints I don't think anybody uses but are EXCELLENT

Now, I've heard Tamiya paints on this board a lot, and Testors, and the occasional mention of Gunze Sangyo or Humbrol, but there's a company that puts out inexpensive lacquers for model cars that you all should take a look at next time you're at your hobby shop.

Floquil.

They make and mix their colors for model train enthusiasts (hence Sante Fe Warbonnet Red and Conrail Blue) but the colors work astonishingly well for model cars. Their flats are REALLY flat and their primer will protect about any modelling material (resin, styrene, metal, putty) from about any sort of paint. Plus it's a low pigment, high paint adhesion grey that doesn't alter the color coat much.

I've been using Floquil for about five years now and am shocked that there aren't more people using it. Guess I had to spend a few years superdetailing Athearn F-units in Erie-Lackawanna and Lehigh Valley paint to find them out.
