Colour associations

This is possibly slightly off-topic, but very relevant to colour choices while modelling. Whenever two different colours are paired together side by side, they will have an effect on one another. Light colours placed beside dark colours will look darker, and dark colours placed beside light colours will look lighter.


Don't believe me? Here's a very interesting proof.



It's very hard to believe, but the squares A and B are the same shade of gray. Even when you know it's true you'll still have trouble believing it.

Here's the proof. Notice that you don't see any change in the shade of gray between the connecting block, but block A and block B still look different. I opened this in Paint just to verify it.
