Shot Peening makes the rods stronger, it relieves the weak part of the rod. This usually goes hand in hand with de-seaming the rod meaning you take out the cast seam on the side of the rod. Inturn making them stronger. This is true with any rod. A little note if ya did not know is that the stress of a rod goes in a striaght line so if there are no seams and it is shot peened it will rely on the over all mass of the rod to take the stress instead of the seams witch are a line that goes down the sides of the rod.
