Its all about engine bay room and how the twin system is setup. Pretty sure the supra is setup in some weird parallel way which gives one turbo some boost then the other one so its easier to put a single on. U could do 2 big turbos.
taking one turbo off doesnt add power. putting one very big turbo on does. For EG, GTR's commonly run 2 big turbos because each turbo simply runs off three cylinders, but u can also make it single turbo.
The rx7 runs purely sequential twins so u could upgrade to say, the big stock turbo being the small one and getting a bigger one for the high rpm application, but it is easier just to go big single.
