The VR-X is a performance version of the Australian assembled Daimante, (Magan, V3000 in other Markets) which is a much bigger car than the Lancer. here:

Its possible theres a VR-X version of the Lancer, but Im sure that since most of the NZ Mitsi range is sourced from Australia we also share the same model line up.
Of note, the AWD Daimante that has just been released is a NZ/Ausie only model. There is an AWD model sold in Japan, however the driveline proved to be to weak for Australian condidtion, so Mitsi Aus took the Japanese body shell and added the EVO VIII gear box and diffs, then mated it to the Australian 3.5L V6 engine.
Its sort of a bigger more comfterble EVO.
