Yeah...it sounds like your thermostat is stuck open...this allows free flowing of coolant, and keeps the car from heating up quickly...you should feel warm air as soon as you see the temp gauge move.
A thermostat is about $3.50...make sure you also get a gasket...the old one won't be any good once you pull the housing apart...make sure you put the new one in the same way the old one came out too
The thermostat is right next to the bleeder valve on the passenger side of the head sorta in front of the dizzy I think...pop off the hose and then two 10mm bolts.
