If you wait until the car is on the boat to prepare the conversion, I can almost guarantee that car will get seized by customs.....

Why you ask? Because it takes longer then 15 days to get the appropriate clearance, and required paperwork to clear customs from your importer and post the bonds.

If your car sits on the dock longer than 15 days - it is seized. Then you pay more $$ to get it back from Customs.

Finally, if you do not have the proper DOT/EPA Temporary permits completed, the car will not even make it through customs, it will be denied entrance to the US.

Do you know what happens when the car is denied entrance???

Oh, one final thing. Once the car is converted, which RI will put their name on the line and certify that it is complete for DOT/EPA inspection? I'll betcha there is only one, and in all likelyhood, if they didn't get the car for you, they won't certify it. Can you say hello crusher?
