The Mica paints have finer pigments in them than Metallics, yet still different than Pearls. Mica's aren't as opaque as some of the other colors like French Blue but not as semi transparent as TS16 Yellow or TS8 Italian Red. Mica Blue gets darker the more you put on so that might be a better way to get the shade you want than putting it over black, which is going to darken it beginning with your very first coat. Start out with a white primer base or TS30 Silver Leaf so you don't start out too dark, you want the color to pop with good highlights, not a color that is muted.
