i got you man i love this subject. well let me start by saying that most of the engine work must be done at the same time. it would be a complete waste of money to get new pistons in then have to open your rngine again to put new rods in. so here is what youll need to do. im assuming youll want to go all out and run high boost so im goin to name a lot of things to strengthen the engine that wont necessarily be mandatory at low boost.
first for your block. you will need new forged pistons and rods. the pistons will need to be less than 9.0:1 compression to run that high boost. i suggest 8.5:1. JE make the best in my eyes. then youll need new rods i would go with eagle or crower. the crank could be left alone but if you have the money i would suggest shot peening the crank and knife edging it for max acceleration. the nice thing about turbocharging is that your head can remain stock without problems. if i were you id leave it stock because upgraded cams make overlap and that would cause your turbo to blow unused air and fuel out the exhaust. also for block sleeves. i dont know what you want to run as far as boost goes but sleeves are for people with an insane amount of money or boost. your block should be fine up to about 15psi. then i would look into sleeves.
then you need to start upgrading your fuel and ignition. i would go with a completely new ignition like the MSD 6A with a blaster coil and 9mm plug wires. then comes the fuel. youll definitely need a new fuel pump again which depends on how much boost youre running along with new injectors . how much boost are you goin to run!!??? you will need a better or reprogrammed ECU to handle all this and the best is a stand alone unit but it is expensive liek the HALTECH and is hard to tune. for you i would suggest a piggyback system. do your own research on that and decide what you like, there are many out there.
of course with all this in your engine now you are ready for a turbo. but you will need a few things now that you cant add on before you have the turbo in. this includes the turbo manifold, id go custom but you could use a REV HARD manifold which work fine. then of course the turbo which again depends on the boost you want to run. then a downpipe which will almpst always have to be custom made and a brand new exhaust. wait till youre installing the turbo to put a new exhaust in because you have to make sure the exhaust you get matches the downpipe. then of course the oil lines to the turbo. from the turbo youll need about 2.5 to 3 inch piping to an intercooler (hint: use a mitsubishi starion intercooler unless you dont care about spending 1500 bucks on a new one) from there youll need a blow off valve and an external wastegate. id go with blitz for those. they are the best. then a pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body. with the turbo installed youll need a turbo timer and boost controller with a good boost guage, water temp guage and oil temp.
after all this is in youll need to get it tuned which any competent turbo shop can do. i think i covered everything but if i think of anything else ill let you know. let me know of any more questions and ill be happy to answer.
