ive worked with resins, in fact im phazing out of plamo(Plastic Models) and moving on to GKs(Resin\Garage Kits). resin is the prefered material to produce GKs because they dont require big expensive plastic injection mold machine. plus resin are more durable and flows much better which can capture details better than plastic. the other difference between GKs and plamo is that they use silicone molds instead of metal molds. since silicone is much more flexible it can capture finer detail than metal molds. what drives the price up is that its labor intensive to make GKs, theyre all done by hand no machines. also theres only a limited amount of castings you can get out of each mold before they tear up, since silicone isnt as durable as metal. with that in mind they have to sell them at much higher prices to turn a profit. unlike metals molds which can punch out thousands kits for years, so they can sell them cheap and make profit over time instead.
BTW the reason why they call them garage kits incase you dont know, thats how they all started, in someones garage.
it may seem a bit expensive at first, but when you start building GKs and notice the difference in quality youll know its all worth it.
