Usually, a bigger muffler gives you a lower, deeper tone, and its a little louder than stock. The smaller, coffe can type mufflers are much louder, but the sound is not as low. My friend got a Tenzo universal muffler for around $120 for his accord. But since we live in Massachusetts, not many places would put it on, (because with universal mufflers, you have to weld on hangers, and weld the pipe on). But we did find a place that did it for $150. So thats about $270 total. I got a Tenzo rear third section that was made specifically for the 92-00 civic, it came with hangers, and bolted right to the pipe, no welding neccesary, and it cost $230. This is what my exhaust looks like, I have a smaller muffler than my friends. His is low, deep, and not too loud. Mine is louder (but not that loud) and the sound is not as deep.
