Dude, just go for it... What's the worst that happens??? You get the f-word (as in friend) and then you wait. Can you date someone after a year? Sure, but in every experience I have with waiting like that it never works out, and something from the past comes back to bite you hard-core in the ass cheek. It's usually something that happened in the friendship, too, thus why dating friends is BAD.
