it all depends on your taste. each has advantages over the other in certain aspects, as well as disadvantages. the 4th gen VTEC's will be the quickest prelude, albeit ever so slightly. if you like a good handling car, the 5th gen SH. 4th gens are easier to modify. 5th gens will be more refined and they have more of a solid feel to them. they're pretty heavy though so don't expect them to be fast as hell. whatever you do, don't get a 5th gen automatic model (particularly the 00 and 01 models). go with a 5 speed. the automatics are prone to premature failure.

although honda has extended the warranty for those models. but if you want my opinion, which is biased, get the 5th gen.

all things being equal, a prelude will beat a gsr in a race. but on the street, they're pretty even since odds are things aren't always equal on the street. the aftermarket is much greater for the gsr.

in the end, it all depends on what you're looking for.
