The chevy 305 smallblock was one of GM's mistakes that motor was really bad, the Ford 302 is a superior engine the 305 has a really long stroke and a small bore so it takes the engine forever to wind up and get any power, whereas with the 302 it has a shorter stroke and a bigger bore so it winds up really quick and builds good power fast. Right now I am driving a 1977 mustang with a 2.8 v6 in it stock, I raced a guy I knew he was in his 83 firebird transam with a 305 v8 with headers custom y-pipe flowmasters, and the car had crossfire throttlebodies, and I beat the guy, not by much but I still beat him, the 305 was a really bad engine.
