That's what I figured... but all the rubber spacers (like in the picture) I've seen on Amazon, Temu, etc... are only ~1/2" deep. Multiple cars I've had require more than that, so I use a block of wood that I've notched deep enough. Just wondering if I wasn't doing something right. Maybe when the weigh of the car is put on the spacer, the pinch weld sinks into the rubber so that the other parts are touching?
