2005 Ford Explorer stalling when coming to a stop

In Sept of 2023 we smelled fuel. Turns out the plastic casing was cracked at the nipple. They replaced the fuel pump assembly. shortly after this service whenever the car was fueled up it would stall when coming to a stop sometimes and this was for a few days after fueling. Took it to a different mechanic who cleaned throttle body, MAF and performed idle re-learn procedure. Could not get it to stall. The problem has continued. I have read that gunk could be in the tank. The vehicle sat for weeks at time before my son started driving. The theory is that when he fuels up it stirs up the gunk. After a few days the problem goes away but comes back EVERY time he fuels up. Can a gas tank be cleaned out or replaced? Thoughts? I am new to this...
