Oil Drain Plug Size Help

Hi there,

New here and to working on cars in general. I've been trying to teach myself how to do simple work on my 2014 Subaru Impreza AWD (i.e. brakes, oil changes, blower motor replacement, etc.) and I've been doing well but ran into a problem yesterday. I went to change my oil and couldn't get the drain plug out because the head is completely stripped. No sure how it happened or when, but sleuthing to find that information really won't help me with my current issue. I've got some bolt extractors so I'm not concerned about getting it off, but I am completely lost on what size plug I need to replace it. I googled it and there are some sites that say one size and some sites that say another size. I think I understand how the sizing works (M14x1.50 17mm is a 14mm diameter bolt with a thread pitch of 1.5 and a 17mm head) but I have no idea what size I need. Also wondering what exactly the difference is between a regular plug and a magnetic one and if there is any reason I should/shouldn't acquire one of those. Any help is greatly appreciated!
