Weird experience at Discount Tire

Hi everyone,

I needed to have two tires replaced on my 2010 Ford Fusion SE. I work next to a Discount Tire, so I went in to get two new tires this morning. When I was paying for the tires he noticed there was a safety recall for lug nut replacements and they wouldn't return my car to me. They paid to have it towed to the dealership even though the dealership apparently told them over the phone not to have it towed there.

The dealer told me that Discount Tire shouldn't have been able to hold the car from me and they felt it was suspicious that they would do so and pay to have it towed. They didn't inspect my car or anything. The recall they mentioned was from 2011 and I purchased the car in 2012 from a dealership. They said my car wasn't part of that recall and even if it was, the dealer would have been required to replace the lug nuts before selling it.

I called the guy from discount tire back and asked him if they noticed something that would make them think it was unsafe or if their tech did something but he wouldn't directly answer the question, only that he just wanted to be on the safe side and their techs aren't mechanics. I drove the car home about 30 miles and it seems fine.

Does that sound weird to you? Is there something I should have checked? I was watching and I didn't see them do anything out of the ordinary to the car.
