Re: Location of REM (Rear Electronic Module) in a `99?
Before spending time and money obtaining a new REM, I would spend a moment ( or even a month) being skeptical. The Ford technician may be correct, but what's more likely to fail ... the lamps, or lamp holders, that are exposed to high temps and weather ... perhaps the wiring between the lamps and REM ... or the protected REM itself? I would remove the lamps, inspect and lubricate the lamp holders... replace the lamps with new. The external lamps get a rather constant 12v supply, and depend on such as the REM for a ground path. All it takes is for a unplanned ground path to appear, and all sort of crazies can occur.
Good luck!
